The food was excellent, however, coming on the week of a conference where there were over 900 people here, and having one sushi chef, and only one waitress was incredibly frustrating !! The first day I went to the bar and sat down and waited for 20 minutes and still had not even been acknowledged (and I saw no less than 8 people arrive AFTER I did and they got their order in while I was ignored). It was not until I got up to leave that I was asked if I had placed an order... then the second time I went to eat there, I sat in the table seating section, and through absolutely NO fault of the waitress, again waited 20 minutes before even being able to place my order. (There was just too many people to serve food to, drinks, and take orders for only one waitress) Great food, reasonable prices, but I hope management takes note of the fact that when there are many people there, they need to have more than one wait staff there or they will lose customers. The next time I come to the Fort and want sushi, I think I'll drive into town as I think I will get much faster service, (Including the drive time).

Escolar (called "white tuna") is my favorite sushi. Excellent flavor and mouth-feel I don't think I've ever had more than 6 oz at once, though, and I've never had it cooked (that I know of). I've never had any bad effects, though I was careful when I started eating it since I had read the warnings.

I can only hope that an entire pregnancy includes a stage one: not-at-all-pregnant and still drinking and gorging on sushi. Buying underwear for a friend is already a dicey prospect. Who am I to estimate the size of her ass?

There are some foods you should skip when you are pregnant. You want to skip deli meats because they can harbor bacteria that are bad for your baby. You also have to pass on sushi if the fish is raw. It's ok to eat California rolls and cucumber rolls.

Have eaten it in sushi and other restaurants many times, and more than the 6 oz recommended portion at a time on more than one occassion, with no problems. Terrific mouthfeel as sushi, and a succulent fish when grilled. Not a problem for everybody, at least in normal portion sizes, and bans are silly. Why not ban milk and soft cheses, since for a significant portion of the population (perhaps 75% of the world population, my anglo self included) lactose produces different but equally upleasant gastrointestinal disturbances? Warnings are just good business practice and should be voluntary.

I tried escolar for the first time at a local restaurant. It was amazing!! I bragged about how great escolar was. Then the very next day I had orange oily poop. I was going to the bathroom every hour. It was gross!! I will never eat it again!

I love to eat vegetable soup at night or in the morning. Preferably miso soup. I cut up a good variety of vegetables but I never feel quite full until I eat some protein like chicken, bacon, fish, beans, eggs, etc.

Why is that? And if you know of any good protein suggestions for soup...please feel free to share! Thank you!

I ruined a perfectly good couch after eating grilled escolar! I've eaten it three times: the first time as sushi, with no problems; the second and third time I ate escolar it was a grilled portion of less than 6 oz. I think my body is developing an allergy or something because the second time I ate it I had a bit of "gastric distress" but nothing like the truly (physically and emotionally) nasty side-effects of my latest -- and last -- tryst with escolar. One ruined couch, pair of underwear and pajama-bottom later, I am trying to decide if I want to risk attending a Super Bowl party later today -- ouch!

Furthermore, if you would like to try this fish and are in the Orange County area, please try HAVEN GASTROPUB up in orange. They are using the Escolar we sell and are have amazing reviews. The fish is a 5oz portion and people are falling in love with this fish all over again!

Please note that there are in fact two different species of Escolar. In the fishing industry we referred to them as SMOOTH SKIN and ROUGH SKIN Escolar, the later (Rough) being the much cheaper yet problomatic fish causing the pugative problems mentioned above. It is such a pitty this fish as been all lumped together as it is an amazing eating as well as environmentally sustainable fish to consume. That being said, I urge people to give this fish a try, and it really is not necessary to even eat more than 5oz of the fish due to how rich and filling this fish is. I honestly believe this fish has earned a bad reputation for no particular reason. Eating too much of anything is going to cause you problems .... however, be sure to ask your purveyor what specie of Escolar they are serving and how was it processed. A good seafood processor would ensure to DEEP-SKIN the escolar as this would remove the high oil contact muscle tissue between the skin and flesh, drastically reducing the issues mentioned above.

Yes, there are several restaurants that offer all-you-can-eat sushi, just a few of which include Takamatsu in Chandler, Orient Sushi & Grill in Gilbert, Sushi Q in Phoenix, Benihana in Chandler and Scottsdale, Koi Sushi Bar in Glendale, Moto Sushi in Phoenix (Saturdays). Enjoy!

I tried Roka Akor and it was devine. I wasn't sure what to expect but the restaurant is definitely more than I expected. I had the eggplant dish and roasted potatoes. Doesn't sound like sushi dining, right? I don't think I've ever had eggplant previously but this was just fantastic. Even the dessert, a type of apple or apple sauce-like "making" was just great.

I can't say enough good things about the food. I don't want to be neglectful and not mention the sushi. There were plenty of rolls and fruit to select from the buffet. A grilled selection is included in the meal plus the all-you-can-drink mimosas.

There were 3 of us dining plus a child. Our meal included grilled entree (per person) + 2 sides, sushi buffet, and mimosas. Our sides included eggplant, miso soup and roasted potatoes with all the finest ingredients and fresh fish. It's my understanding that the fish is flown in daily which just completes the experience.

I highly recommend the restaurant and look forward to returning.

Man, this is kind of scary. I have never had this fish, I am sure of it, but I WILL have to watch out for it.
After reading the first article I do recall that I have had walu before. It was super tasty, fortunately I didn't eat very much of it.

You can have your "Phoenix metro" sushi. The best is still Tomo, in Goodyear.
